BTTD Release Delay
Hey guys. Jared here. Long time no see. Steph’s out on vacation today so I get to be the one to blog today!
Great news! Bubble Tanks Tower Defense is delayed! In traditional HI fashion, rather than getting a partially finished game this week, you all can look forward to a fully complete and awesome game released either next week or the week after! Huzzah!
Ok, that’s actually not great news at all. But unfortunately we need just a little bit longer to wrap this one up. We’re on the home stretch though and are nearly finished. With a whopping 52 different levels and maps all needing to be played, balanced, and tested, it’s taking far longer than we expected to nail this one down. But as always, we won’t release a partially finished game- you guys deserve the best. So sit tight and bear with us.

@meeso: You’re right. It does happen all the time which is too much. We’re trying hard to fix that. The good news is that when it happens now, it’s only 2 weeks instead of 2 months which was the case in the past.

Will juggling be an aspect of the game? Either way it should be possible, but I don’t wanna see a game that forces you to juggle after a certain point.
yea it is taking too long espacillay BTA but they shouldn’t rush or else they would’ve probably miss bugs and glitches, well at least it still coming out

I got Left 4 Dead 2 to play with tommorow anyway, so not having this game won’t be so bad anyway.
Wow, Pole Vaulting has kept me off of here for a while. Anyway, it’s good to see this game coming along. Besides, it was a “tentative pseudo release date that was only sorta announced!”

@ASlorexa: BTA is not late. We have never stated a release date for the game. Let me again make that clear- there is no release date for BTA.

ASlorexa, if you quote Steph or whoever posted that post. They precisely said, “Our new game, Bubble Tanks Tower Defense, SHOULD be released within the next two weeks!”
Therefore contradicting your accusation. They do NOT have a reputation for making late games, they never have games that are late in the making. They simply have to delay them. Because, of course, they are the ones who decide when it comes out. If it is not released on the specified date, it does NOT mean it is late. Simply delayed.
Be patient. For there is no late games. Just delayed ones =_=
Kirtus is exactly right. Stop blaming the developers just because you have no one else to blame for your disappointment. Its not their fault that you believed in the Tenative Pseudo Release Date That Was Only Sorta Announced with all of your heart, I mean, can you or can you not see all of these big fancy words that just scream out to you that its not a definite date?

original idea for BTTD Here it goes: When you select a tower there will be a button that says ‘TAKE CONTROL’ and when you press the button you will be able to control the tower with your mouse giving the tower more damage, higher rate of fire etc. Tell me what you think and i will be pleased

@lord98, thats not a completely original idea, ive seen something similar in several games, the whole “taking control and thus making it better” concept is an old thing, tho having to press a button for it is new, normally, you dont have a choise, its automatic when you choose the tower…

@lord98: That’s actually a really neat idea! I don’t think it fits right for BTTD, nor would we have the time to implement that if if we wanted to- but it’s kind of a neat idea and might be good for another game built around that feature.
that idea is normally implemented in real time strategy games… not really for tower defense games

good to know you guys still breathe while the fans aren’t there. I’ve tried programming a game and in about two-three months got something worse than Pacman quality.
Awesome. It’s good you guys are taking extra time to finish it! I would hate for a game to come out early with plenty of bugs and need an update. So while many dont want to wait, at least its only a week. Thats actually a real quick mop-up time compared to how long it could take!
@lord98 I’ve played few games with that ability and while it creates more stress and multi-tasking for the gamer, it would make a hit game if done right. Normally the games with that are too challenging, but if its too easy, then

They are probably working out the last few bugs, and implementing some recently added ideas that they though of a week ago, maybe. But look on the bright side, this means more fun for us when it comes out.

basicall, the game will be done in a week or two, unless it gets delayed again…
@Canadian: There is no waiting period. Towers sell and are placed instantly.
I got to ask When will you add a release date for bta!!!!(even if its wrong itd be nice to now roughly when its going to come out if its weeks months years?)bttd looks great might as well get a good game instead of a bad one.

kirtus. they probably didnt calculate how long it would takr to test it right or they found some mistakes/glitches while testing so they had to fix them.
please relize that programming is a slow process… the average programmer only adds about 10 lines of code a day… you don’t just sit down on a computer and then the next day you have 1000 lines of code ready to use as a program
cant u just block all the exits for all the minion things u have to kill? easy win right? mabey thats why theres a need for a path in TD games…. or.. the minions can go through you? well if they can then why would u waste ur time makeing a path for the tanks… so which is it? can they go through you or they cant? if they cant go through u then its sooo simple to beat the game

Josh…there’s a reason why all TD games prevent you from blocking the path. Take Desktop TD for example.

well, the reason why the games take longer to make than they said originally, is because they might have run into some unforeseen events, and that will delay them, and theres nothing they could have done to avoid it.
@Josh:
in every TD game ever made, as far as i know, there are codes that have been put into the game to prevent you from completely blocking the path. and in most TD,s there are air-type attackers, that simply go above the towers. thats why you build “mazes” so that the non-flying attackers will be getting shot at during the entire trip.
@Kirtus1000: That’s a valid question. The truth is that any number of things can happen to delay the game, especially since our games are pretty much released soon after development and it’s always down to the wire. Usually, something that we estimated would only take, say a day or two to make in the game ends up taking far longer, so we have to readust our estimates.
Near the end of game development, we typically have testers come in and try the game out so we can get feedback. If testers find bugs or potential problems, we have to take the time to fix those- and sometimes they find more than we expected. They may not even be bugs, the game may simply be too easy or too hard, and then we need to go through and re-balance all 52 levels. Additionally, sometimes we find out we need to add a some new features we originally didn’t have planned. For example, in BTTD we had a problem where players couldn’t tell by looking at the level select screen which levels were easy or hard. So we decided to add a new feature that pops up when you roll over a level to inform the player of it’s difficulty.
@Josh: The game does not allow you to block an enemy’s path to the exit.

Will these units move in a straight-forward path to the exit, or will they not know where the exit is located and move towards the general location? If they don’t know where the exit is, this will make mazes so much more effective…and also, if they don’t know where the general location of the exit is, make it so that they at least don’t take the same exact path over again.

if everyone read the posts they would know that the game is coming out in 1-2 weeks and its coming out in that time period because HI is testing all the levels and calibrating them to be fun. jeesh readddddd the postsss!

Well, the game looks good and seems it has different shaped levels (In which it’s the only TD game I saw having different shaped levels), which can make this game even more exciting and more strategic!
well a lot of games go alfa testing, then alfa testing again…. then again… then again…. then beta testing…. then beta testing again… and again… until there are no more problems….so…… it might be delayed again if we are unlucky…
well, the game does have quite a few original ideas, like the whole bubble theme and what not, all together, im sure ti will be a great game, when its finally released, and @rayne, if they dont read the post, what are the odds they will read your comment? seems almost pointless to even try answering all the questions…

well, i hear (well, read is more correct) a lot of people talking (really just writing) about how long it is taking for this game to come out, and how long they’ve been waiting sice HI put up this post, but what most people fail to realize, is tha you have allready waited for a long time, so a few more days… well, it aint gona kill ya, so be patient, let them take theyr time, dont bug them, etc. etc. and, blah, blah, blah…
well, besides, ive said it before, nagging them about how long theyr taking with getting the game out, can only slow them down, with having to read all the posts and all that, so give them the time it takes, and stop complaining…
although I do agree with you, personally, I think if they are gonna give us a release date it should at least be accurate, cause it can be annoying when you have last second delays, so perhaps you should not give a release date, unless you really think it is gonna be good.

Actually, I have and idea. If you want it to come faster, why don’t you become a game programmer and learn everything there is about gaming, so you can make it go faster. Begging for the game to come faster and constantly whining about it won’t make the game get done quicker. Your better off playing some other games. In the meantime, there’s a really nice TD game called Creeper World, you should try it.

Hey herointeractive dudes, you guys made my dreams come true, the only 2 types of flash games that i play is tower defenses and bubble tank ones.
i really don’t mind if you guys delay the release of this game, it must be quite hard to code a game like the ones you guys make.
btw, why don’t you guys make some flash game programming lessons ? it would be awesome, like the ones in kongregate, but their lessons don’t teach much of programming, just do this, do that and you will have an spaceship game.

My apologies, guys. I read about the tower placement. It is so awesome how you guys have set it up. I saw from your screenshots that there are damage boosts, area attacks, long range, machine gun, and other types of towers. I hope there are towers that gain extra bubbles (for building other towers), explosion towers, and all other sorts of towers.
I wonder if there are multiple versions of those huge towers, like a muliple direction tower or a huge cannon tower. That would be awesome. How is that going to be set up? I guess we’ll all find out soon!
BTW… don’t mind these other guys. I know this game will pwn all the other tower defense games. It’s just we’re all waiting for the awesomeness.
Also… since this game is going to be a success, you should do an add-on version in a few months that adds a few more towers and levels… then again… you may want to save that for BTTD 2.

the tower itself should have gained bubbles in stead of all towers
i mean the tower who kills the enemy target should get bubbles.

i think your the one who gets the bubbles, not the towers, you get the bubbles to be able to buy more towers, and upgrade the ones you have.

Just leave HI alone! Jeez, they didn’t specify a release date guys, and every GOOD game gets a delay just to make it better, plus this isnt a delay- they havent even said it was a delay, they simply said that the game wasnt finished.
ThatGuy, maybe you should read this blog more carefully. The title says BTTD Release delay, and in the second paragraph, it says it’s delayed.

I didnt blame your B-day for the delay… i just got a “bit” upset when i red tha Huzzah part when you told us about the delay. Aaaand i want to say i will not stop folowing you… i will keep checking back until my eyes drop out. Go on and never stop Hero interactive.
